Srikanth Nadhamuni, CEO of Khosla Labs, who also served as chief technology officer at UIDAI, says companies that want Dadhaar authentication for their services don`t necessarily need to get the licenses and set up a return infrastructure to get the authentication. “We have written a number of Application Programme Interface (API) that make it easier for companies to integrate with Aadhaar. Then we sign them sub-AUA through a contractual agreement authenticated by the central government,” he says. The circular comes after the Indian government informed, on April 22, 2020, certain companies related to shares/securities, in accordance with the recommendation of UIDAI and Sebi, to implement UIDAI`s Aadhaar authentication service, in accordance with the Money Prevention Act 2002. To perform this authentication, they can become either an AAU or a sub-AUA. “The companies listed above must be registered with UIDAI as a KYC User Agency (“KUA”) and allow sebi registered intermediaries/PPs to perform Aadhaar authentication to their customers for KYC purposes,” the circular states. Therefore, if a company wants to perform authentication through its own application, it can use the API developed by Khosla Labs and create the integration. Apart from that, Khosla Labs also offers an authentication service for those looking for Aadhaar-based authentication. The authentication process is completed within a few hours if the request is made in an appropriate format. Apart from ESB, central depository services (India) Ltd (CDSL) and National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) – e-KYC (Electronic-Know Your Customer) authentication has also been authorised on the basis of a Sebi circular. RailTel already offers the Aadhaar authentication service at IRCTC for the reduction of senior train tickets at IRCTC and the registration of the e-wallet.
The combination of Aadhaar cards and train tickets for seniors is a salutary measure to streamline the process of booking people in such a category. Aadhaar authentication is the process by which the Aadhaar number and other attributes (demographic/biometric/OTP) are transmitted to UIDAI`s Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) for verification. The CIDR verifies that the data transmitted correspond to the data available in the CIDR and responds with a “yes/no”. The trustID response and BetterPlace do not return personal identity information that only two private companies among others that include Aadhaar authentication among their services. Companies such as Khosla Labs, Janalakshmi Financial Services Ltd, WeP Solutions, headquartered in Bengaluru, are on the list of Aadhaar Authentication User Agencies (AUAs) registered with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
